Filled is a kind of surface finish. This process allows a flattened look in the surface, filling all the pores of the tile. The tiles holes can be filled with the grout or epoxy. The colour of the grout filling is looks like the stones natural color. It is generally in beige colour and ranges from light to dark according to tiles natural colour. The epoxy filling is colourless and creates a transparent look on the surface. All the holes can be seen, but no holes on it. When a tile is filled, it is allways honed. Honed is also, a kind of surface finish. It means half polished and a honed tile has a matte look. Every kind of travertine tile with or without filling can be honed. But if you want more shiny and smooth look, you can also buy the polished travertine tiles. Polished is an alternative to honed. Brushed travertine can be applied to an unfilled tiles surface as in tumbled. Acid washed and wire brushed for a smooth textured surface. Mostly, its used as flooring tile for outdoors.

Generally when you order a filled travertine tile, actually you order a grout filled travertine tile. If you need a transparent look, you must specify the epoxy filling. Polyester filling is only available as vein cut tiles.

Vein cut is a unique characteristic of travertine tiles. The tiles are cut along the linear layers. This creates coloured bands which ranges from light to dark beige colours on the surface of the tile. The vein cut travertine tiles can be used as either unfilled or grout filled or polyester filled.
